Minneapolis selects Portfolio

UltraDB, UltraFIDS, UltraResource and UltraCUSE selected at Minneapolis – St. Paul International Airport

November 2007

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) selected Ultra Electronics Airport Systems to replace an encumbent's Common Use platform with the UltraCUSE Passenger Processing check-in and boarding system.  In addition the MAC selected the suite of Ultra Airport Information Management Systems (UltraDB - Airport Operational Database, UltraFIDS - Flight/Gate/Baggage Information Display System and UltraResource – Gate/Check-in Desk Resource Management System to replace and extend their existing systems in place at the Humphrey Terminal (HT).

Ultra Electronics Airport Systems deployed the passenger processing systems to over 50 common check in and boarding locations.  By delivering a complete ‘common use’ environment, UltraCUSE enables airport resources to operate more efficiently. It permits the terminal’s workstations and peripherals to be shared by many airlines, with clear cost benefits to an airport terminal that handled in excess of 2 million passengers last year.

Ultra’s Airport Information Management systems allow the airport to manage the Humphrey Terminal signage through automated interfaces to airlines.  In addition the MAC can effectively schedule and plan the 10 gates and stands through a feature rich tool set.  The UltraDB and UltraFIDS installations have been sized to support a possible future extension into the Lindbergh Terminal where over 1000 displays currently operate for the 30+ million passenger terminal.

MSP Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) Manager of IS, Michael Ladd, said 'MAC was very pleased with the selection of Ultra Electronics Airport Systems after the RFP and Software Demonstration process.  Since then, Ultra's ability to implement the new technologies and systems at the MSP Humphrey Terminal (HT) has proven to be a success for both the MAC and the HT airlines.  Partnering with Ultra will allow MAC to meet the MSP system needs of the airlines and the flying public for many years into the future.'

The contract signals a further step in the increasing growth of the UltraCUSE system, following recent successful installations at airports in North and South America, Russia, China, Middle East and Europe.  The mission at Ultra is to continue to be aggressive in offering UltraCUSE to become the ‘Real Alternative’ within the Common Use market.

“Ultra is honored by the confidence shown in its capability to deliver a turnkey replacement of the existing Humphrey Terminal suite of common-use applications: CUTE, AODB, FIDS and RMS, with Ultra’s integrated suite of products.  Working in collaboration with our client, the project has been a textbook model for critical system replacement in a live operational airport environment. “
