UltraBSI / UltraControl
Monitors, controls and manages systems and equipment on the airport utilising best-of-breed SCADA products
Key Benefits
- Reduces utilities and building systems outage times
- Improves efficiency of an airport control/operations room
- Improves response to incidents by electronic reporting of faults
- Reduces training requirements for operators
- Improves quality of service for passengers and airlines
- Better management of service agreements through enhanced reporting
Overview
UltraControl remotely monitors and controls the status of assets across the airport. Typical airport-wide assets would be electricity distribution, water treatment plant, road infrastructure etc. UltraBSI (Building Systems Integration) is a particular application of UltraControl which manages building systems within the airport terminal.
UltraControl provides a range of services from initial feasibility studies through to delivering complete operational SCADA solutions using commercial off-the-shelf products and open standards. UltraControl can be delivered with other airport operational systems as part of Ultra's integrated airport solution.
UltraBSI integrates the control and monitoring of systems such as heating and ventilation, lifts, escalators, airbridges, access control, CCTV and fire alarms at common multi-screened workstations, providing a standard intuitive user interface across all the various system types. It provides operators with a coordinated view of all the systems based on a floorplan of the building where appropriate, allowing operators to react to the information in the context of the location of the equipment concerned. It centralises alarm management, allowing proper prioritisation of faults and incidents, reducing operator workload and improving the efficiency of the operation. Interaction between systems, such as automatic display of CCTV images associated with an incident, can be handled by UltraBSI.
Ultra is working closely with BAA to provide an integrated airport solution for the new Terminal 5 at London Heathrow, using UltraControl, UltraBSI and UltraIB. Terminal 5 will comprise of a terminal building and two satellites. There will be 42 stands (12 of which will be for the new A380) and 139 check-in desks.
London Heathrow Airport's passenger throughput for 2005 was in excess of 67 million. By 2011 it is expected to increase to almost 100 million when both the new Terminal 5 satellites are operational.
