Designed to support the needs of today's high-pressure baggage handling operations, UltraReflight addresses the recovery activities resulting from mishandled baggage, which has been estimated to cost the air transport industry in excess of $3.7bn each year. With the ability to handle both the day-to-day processing of mishandled baggage resulting from missed connections and other routine causes, as well as help airlines recover from major disruption events such as extreme weather or equipment failure, UltraReflight helps to reduce the mishandled bag costs.
UltraReflight supports conventional Operator Present Reflighting, where the operator enters the tag number, either at a keyboard or via a bar-code scanner, and the system suggests the flight that will reunite passenger and bag as quickly as possible. If required a full baggage tag or overlay tag with the new routing can be printed. UltraTrak reduces, and in some cases can remove, the need to contact reservation desks, gates and check-in staff to check that a passenger has flown, and integrates fully with WorldTracer, removing the need to users to understand and operate the WorldTracer interface.
Remote and fully Automatic Reflighting modes are also supported where a fully tracked sortation system, able to send messages indicating that a bag has missed its flight, is available. For all options UltraReflight generates the necessary sortation and WorldTracer messages that ensure the automatic handling of the reflighted bag can take place.
As well as saving costs, using UltraReflight can greatly improve customer service. The customer can be proactively informed of the status of their missing bag, and can be informed upon arrival at the down-line station that their bag has missed the flight but is already on its way. Using real-time, up to date flight schedules, UltraReflight can also ‘save’ bags. This is the process whereby a bag is assumed to have missed its flight, so is sent to the problem bag area, but can actually make that flight due to a delay or other operational issue.
UltraReflight can support the use of, and interface to, a courier service to transport baggage when recovering from conditions of mass disruption such as bad weather. Bags can be processed in groups to speed processing and the reflighting of existing ULDs is supported.
Additional features such as the ability to send batched QOH messages, screening BPMs and the management of ad-hoc baggage groups makes UltraReflight the most advanced tool of its kind.
UltraReflight is used in automatic mode in London Heathrow Terminal 5, and in Operator Present mode in Terminals 1 and 3.
