Senior Project Manager/Project Manager
JOB TITLE: Senior Project Manager / Project Manager
LOCATION: Manchester
REPORTING TO: Head of Projects
DIRECT REPORTS: Project Managers for Senior Role
JOB PURPOSE:
To manage the delivery of a project or portfolio of contracts to the as-sold margin, timescales and quality and in adherence with the company’s policies and processes. Throughout, for the senior role, differentiating factors are indicated.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Manager responsibilities:
- To provide pre-sales support for opportunities and / or to act as the Opportunity Manager for specific opportunities as defined within the company’s Opportunity Management Framework.
- To work with the Contracts Team to ensure that contractual terms are negotiated pre-award, that these protect the company’s interests and are pro-actively executed throughout the project lifecycle.
- To manage the formation of a project organisation to deliver one or more contracts.
- To ensure that system development requirements originating from your contracts are delivered to the Product Development Team in accordance with the Company’s processes.
- To meet the commitments of the company on your project, achieving customer satisfaction and building high-quality relationships with our customers.
- To deliver as-sold contract margins through the effective execution of proactive issues, change, quality and risk management disciplines.
- To regularly report project status as required by the Company, in which regard you will ensure that the Company’s financial and risk reporting policies are rigorously adhered to.
- To rigorously utilise the Company’s best practice processes; Prince II, ITIL and the Opportunity Management Framework.
- To review your job through the company’s PDP process, at least annually, with the objective of achieving continuous improvement; attend training courses and industry conferences as necessary for business awareness and self-development.
- To manage your team in accordance with company’s Management Charter and to adhere to the Human Resources processes described in the Employee Handbook.
Senior Project Manager differentiators:
- In addition to managing their own contract(s) the role holder may be required to line manage one or more project managers; providing leadership, developmental line management and regular reviews of the projects or workstreams they are executing.
- The role holder may be required to manage projects of high complexity and risk typically defined by the presence of one or more of the following factors:
- The management of significant elements of subcontracted work.
- The implementation of large distributed systems infrastructures.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE
Essential:
- Prince II Practitioner/PMP/PMI
Desirable:
- Basic service qualification – e.g. ITIL Foundation.
SKILLS /EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- Experience of managing systems development/integration projects, ideally involving business-critical real-time/on-line systems.
- A successful track-record in managing multiple IT projects and/or programmes using formal project/programme management methods (e.g. Prince II, MSP, or other formal method), with full delivery and financial responsibility to the satisfaction of internal and external customers. (Remove references to programs and multiple projects for the junior position)
- Proven experience of successfully building, leading and motivating a team.
- Senior PM only: Proven experience of managing and developing project managers and team leaders and of reviewing projects.
- Senior PM only: Proven experience of managing complex projects / programs as defined in the roles and responsibilities above.
Desirable:
- Airline industry experience.
- An IT or systems engineering background.
- Experience of international working, including appreciation of the importance of understanding and meeting local legislative and cultural requirements.
OTHER ATTRIBUTES
- Willingness and ability to travel and work overseas for potentially protracted periods (multiple weeks).
- Ability to pass a Criminal Records Check for an airport airside pass.
